Vandals broke into a development in Ashford, Kent, and set a fire in the stairwell of a six-apartment building. The stairwell, which was still under construction, acted as a chimney, with flames spreading quickly to the roof. This eventually collapsed into the rest of the building.

Delivering increased output to power high capacity mowing and turf renovation equipment, two new John Deere 5720 tractors will be thundering up the hallowed turf at Newmarket racing’s ‘headquarters’, this year.
Installed on the Rowley Mile and July courses as part of an official supplier agreement with Newmarket’s owners, Jockey Club Racecourses, the tractors are spearheading a programme to make best use of the grounds men’s time while producing an improved finish to the turf.

JCB has added three new machines ranging from 29 tonnes to 52 tonnes to its JS tracked excavator range. The 29-tonne JS290, 36-tonne JS360 and 52-tonne JS520 will all be shown in Las Vegas at Conexpo 2008.
The JS290 will bridge the gap between the JS260 and JS330 in the existing line-up and the JS360 will fill the opening between the JS330 and the JS460. The JS520 will be shown at Conexpo as a concept machine. It would become the largest machine JCB manufactures.
