Whether it's a long weekend over the bank holiday or two weeks to sunnier climates, criminals can steal your equipment and dispose of it before you have even noticed it's missing.

So what can you do? TER (The National Plant and Equipment Register) has the following advice:

• Keep a detailed inventory of all equipment

• Post warning signs around the perimeter of your worksite

• Have good fencing, gates and lighting

• Anchor or immobilize equipment

• Consider installing tracking and after theft recovery systems

• Ask neighbours to report anything suspicious to the police

• Report thefts as soon as possible to the police and TER

• Register your equipment fleet with TER for a maximum of £100 per
fleet per annum

• Attach TER pink 'police stop me stickers' encouraging the police to
check the ownership details with TER if moving after 8pm until 5am (the
most common time for stolen equipment to be moved)
