Hitachi launches Zaxis-3 mid-range excavators and ZW wheel loaders
(21/08/2007)
Equipped with powerful new engines and an advanced hydraulic system, productivity of the new Hitachi range is increased by 10%-17 %. Hitachi has selected Isuzu engines to translate the increased power into enhanced performance. The HIOS III hydraulic system allows greater control over the simultaneous operation of the arm and boom. Their operating speed can be increased by as much as 15% thanks to the revised recirculation system. The forces involved in traction, digging and swing torque have also increased to unprecedented levels.
The Zaxis-3 series is differentiated by its impressive power output and how quickly and precisely it can be operated. Man and machine work in unison thanks to the finger-tip control available to the operator.
At the end of a swinging motion, an anti-reversing mechanism minimizes the movement of the machine to ensure that the front attachment remains firmly in place.
The rear of the new wheel loaders has also been redesigned to provide better visibility.
The ZW range is equipped with a three-step clutch cut-off system. The operator can select the perfect balance between braking force and clutch cut-off when loading hoppers on a gradient.
Conventional systems have only one fixed setting. This could result in the machine rolling backwards when the brake is applied and the clutch is disconnected on a steep slope. The operator could also waste too much energy pushing against the brakes when on a slight slope or loading trucks on flat ground. The three-step system can be selected manually by the operator depending on the job site conditions. There are also three available settings determined by the gradient of the slope.
The Total Torque Control System on ZW wheel loaders allows operators to find the right balance between traction and digging forces. Depending on the job, the setting can be manually adjusted to traction priority, general work or light duty. This obviously increases the wheel loader's productivity and reduces fuel consumption.
Hitachi is working towards the ultimate combination of man and machine. The answer is a new range of technologically advanced excavators with the emphasis on comfort and safety.
The Zaxis-3 ergonomic cabins are specially designed with the operators in mind. From the seat, the operator has an excellent view of the jobsite. The spacious cabin contains a comfortable and fully adjustable seat with ample leg space and easy controls within reach. The operator's feeling of control is completed by a comprehensive dashboard. The Zaxis-3 is even equipped with a LCD-monitor and rear-view camera. The low noise cabin has a very strong structure and a climatically controlled environment in which the operator can enjoy his job.
The National Plant and Equipment Register report indicates that excavators represent 56% of stolen construction equipment. The new Zaxis-3 excavators are equipped with a theft deterrent device, which means that they won't start unless the correct pin code is inserted.
The new European regulations relating to noise and emissions will be introduced in 2006. The design of the Zaxis-3 is compliant with these new guidelines. At only 103 dB (Zaxis 250-3), the noise level falls comfortably within the new regulations.
While the performance of the Zaxis excavators and ZW wheel loaders has increased, the fuel consumption figures have reduced significantly. The Zaxis-3 is expected to save around 15% thanks to the economical Isuzu OHC 4-valve engine and advanced hydraulic system. On the new ZW wheel loaders fuel consumption can also be reduced significantly due to the Total Torque Control system.
The enhanced durability of the new generation of Zaxis-3 excavators and ZW wheel loaders will help to increase the residual value of the machines over their working life. The latest excavators also benefit from a stronger undercarriage.
The wheel loaders are equipped with more durable components such as the axles, transmission and brakes. This will extend the service intervals and reduce downtime.
Hitachi has developed the new Zaxis-3 and ZW wheel loaders to make routine maintenance easier for its customers. All consumable parts are accessible from ground level.
However, one of the biggest advantages is the extended service intervals. This is due to the need for fewer oil changes, reduced oil consumption and more durable parts. The hydraulically operated cooling fan on ZW wheel loaders can be reversed for easy removal of dirt from the radiator. The flat cabin floor and front chassis are also designed for easy removal of dirt.
The objective of Hitachi is to deliver 100% reliability. Mandatory service checks are therefore required to avoid breakdowns.
The Zaxis-3 excavators and ZW wheel loaders are equipped with GPS units to continuously monitor the engine, technical faults and of course its location. This simplifies the maintenance of Hitachi construction equipment. Dealers can be more pro-active and preventive maintenance can be carried out on-site.
