Self Drive Excavators Ltd has become the first independent plant hire company in Scotland to buy the new Kubota KX080-3GL 8.2-tonne mini excavator. The Glasgow plant hirer has purchased two of the new models to replace another manufacturer's machines. Their arrival means that almost half of the company's 50-strong fleet of mini excavators are now Kubota machines.

The short tail swing KX080-3 - the heaviest in the Kubota mini excavator range - is a high performance 8-tonner. It provides performance, safety, durability, reliability and comfort, together with low running costs and ease of servicing.

A well-balanced arm and bucket provides the operator with unparalleled digging, allowing the machine to dig faster and more efficiently in the toughest conditions. It delivers a reduced rear-tail swing radius that takes it into the tightest spots, coupled with excellent machine stability. The rear overhang features cast-iron protectors to significantly reduce the chances of damage to the machine when working in restricted space.

Like all other Kubota mini excavators in the Self Drive fleet, the cabbed KX080-3GLs were supplied by local Kubota dealer, Young Plant & Equipment Sales Ltd, of Doune, Stirling.

They are fitted with the Miller Bug hydraulic quick hitch coupler system that allows the operator to quickly and easily switch between a wide range of buckets and other attachments from inside the cab.

As with all other Kubota mini excavators, from 1.5 tonne upwards, the KX080-3 features the unique Kubota 'ANTI-THEFT' system. This complete, easy-to-use security device was the first and still is the only one of its kind fitted as standard equipment by a mini excavator manufacturer.

Said Murray McLean, owner of Self Drive Excavators Ltd: "The two 8-tonners went straight into general hire work and have been so sought after that I have not seen them since the day they were delivered. We have been buying Kubota minis since our business started in 1990; in fact the very first machine purchased was a 2.5 tonne model. They are a good, reliable product that are popular with our customers and never give us any technical problems, with great after-sales service backup provided by Young Plant."

The KX080-3GL is powered by the Kubota V3800DI large displacement direct injection engine, which combined with the ultra-efficient hydraulic system maximises the strength of the digging force and minimises noise levels, fuel consumption and exhaust emissions.

Kubota's Auto Idling System is fitted as standard. When high engine RMP isn't needed, or when control levers are left in neutral for longer than four seconds, it automatically reduces the engine to idling speed.

It is the first mini/midi excavator to offer adjustable maximum oil flow on the auxiliary circuit (SP1). This unique feature, when combined with the Kubota Intelligent Control System, allows the oil flow to operate according to the attachment in use.

Customers can select from 18 base models, spanning the weight range from 850kg to 8 tonnes.
