JCB launches HTD5 high-tip walk behind tracked Dumpster
(22/02/2008)
JCB has launches the HTD5 high-tip walk behind tracked Dumpster. The HTD5 has a 500Kg payload, 0.3cu m skip and tip height of 1450mm. It has been designed to target the UK hire market but offers considerable potential for owner operators in the construction, refurbishment and landscaping sectors.
With health and safety legislation increasingly shifting the emphasis away from manual handling, the demand for a machine with high lift height such as the HTD5 is set to increase dramatically. Its lift performance negates the need for personnel to lift materials into skips or push wheelbarrows along potentially dangerous planks as is still common on some sites.
The compact dimensions of the HTD5 mean it can be driven through a standard width doorway enabling access to the rear of properties and other previously restricted areas. The length of the undercarriage is longer than on most competitive models giving the HTD5 improved longitudinal stability.
The new Dumpster is particularly effective when working in tandem with a micro excavator such as the new JCB 8008 model. The HTD5 can follow the Micro on confined sites or difficult terrain and can be loaded directly by the excavator to remove the spoil from site.
It is available with a choice of diesel-powered engines giving power outputs of 4.4-5.9kW (5-8hp), mounted on a sub-frame that slides out to ease service access and simplify routine checks. The engine can be specified with either recoil or electric start systems.
A three-pump hydraulic system powers both tracks and lift/tip mechanisms and allows for a two speed tracking system. Two pumps provide tracking power in low range and in high range the third pump supplements the flow to give an impressive tracking speed of up to 4kph. The third pump is also used for the tipping mechanism while lift power is taken from the track pumps. This gives the additional safety benefit that the skip cannot be raised whilst the tracks are in operation.
The machine was previewed at SED 2007 and is set for its UK launch at the Executive Hire Show, when JCB will showcase its growing range of tools and machines ideally suited to the small plant hirer.
