ISG Jackson secures project to build a new community swimming pool and library complex in Biggin Hill

ISG Jackson has secured a £4 million project with the London Borough of Bromley to build a new community swimming pool and library complex in Biggin Hill. The council has now given the go ahead for the greatly anticipated new facility, to be built on the site of the town's existing library, which the contractor will demolish as part of the project.

Work is due to commence at the end of the month, when the contractor will begin clearing the site ahead of the construction of a double height steel frame structure, which will house the new 25 metre, six lane swimming pool and a two-storey library facility. The contemporary design of the leisure complex will feature large areas of facetted glazing to the façade, alongside striking translucent cladding panels and a sustainable green sedum roof structure.

The architectural design cues continue inside the new building with exposed timber roof beams in the pool hall area and an absence of exposed ductwork to create clean lines and minimise overall maintenance costs. The new two-storey library includes a café area, community meeting rooms, children's party room and IT area. Externally, ISG Jackson will create a car park area and hard landscape the site using a porous paving system to reduce the impact of the development on the local environment. The new facility is expected to open its doors to the public by early 2010.
