ISG Jackson Special Projects builds affordable homes in Cambridgeshire
(29/10/2009)
ISG Jackson Special Projects has successfully completed a £1 million project with Hastoe Housing Association to build 10 affordable homes for local people in the Cambridgeshire village of Kennett. Environmental sustainability lies at the heart of the new development, with the highly insulated timber frame homes heated through a renewable ground source heat pump system.
The six semi-detached homes and a two-storey building, which houses a further four apartments, have been specially designed to blend seamlessly with the local environment. Hastoe Housing Association specialises in rural developments that complement the local community, with ISG Jackson Special Projects delivering attractive brick and timber weatherboarding homes with timber frame windows and pitched tiled roofs.
Using off-site manufactured timber frame technology for the construction of the new homes has helped reduce the overall construction programme and, alongside a raft of other green measures including innovative ground source heat pump systems, has enabled the development to achieve an impressive Level 3 Code for Sustainable Homes environmental rating.
Stuart Talbot, divisional director for ISG Jackson Special Projects, commented: "The successful completion of this fast-track development for Hastoe Housing Association emphasises our client’s commitment to building truly sustainable communities. The green technology not only helps minimise the carbon footprint of the development, but also dramatically reduces the overall running costs for the new homes, which is a major advantage for residents.”
