Two east London housing schemes under development by Swan Housing Group have received a £7.7 million funding boost from the Department for Communities and Local Government’s Kick Start Round 2.
The construction of new homes will be given a boost by the new funding at the Bow Cross Estate, Tower Hamlets where work a £100 million programme of estate refurbishment and new construction is well underway. Bow Cross received £3.5 million in Kick Start Round 2 funding.
The estate transferred to Swan in 2005. Key features of the Bow cross scheme include the construction of 387 new homes for social rent, shared ownership and sale; the refurbishment of 295 existing homes; and a radical overhaul of the estate’s three iconic tower blocks. A new community centre is also under construction.
In addition, Streamlight Alberta, a 25-storey tower under construction in the Docklands area of London, received a £4.1 million boost. When complete, Streamlight will be a mixed use development of 133 residential units, commercial and community space over three buildings.
