Volvo ABG7820B and ABG8820B tracked pavers lay a smooth even mat with precision
(28/12/2009)
Designed for paving contractors working on medium and large-scale applications such as municipal roads, highways and airfields, the Volvo ABG7820B and ABG8820B tracked pavers provide a working width from 2.5 m (8ft.2in) up to 13.0 m (42ft. 8in.). The Volvo D7 engine meets EU IIIA/E.P.A. Tier 3 emission standards and is rated at 170 kW (231 metric hp) for the ABG7820B and at 182 kW (247.5 metric hp) for the ABG8820B.
Both models are fitted with the latest generation of Volvo’s Electronic Paver Management (EPM) system, including a new smart power mode. The EPM system provides the operator with a clear overview and control of all paving processes. At any time, the operator can view menus for the engine data and paving functions on the control panel with colour screen. To protect against damage or vandalism, the EPM and auxiliary control panels can be safely stowed in easily accessible, lockable compartments.
Because many applications do not require the engine’s full output capacity, operators of the ABG7820B and ABG8820B can select the smart power mode on the EPM control unit. Smart power mode lowers the engine speed, while maintaining screed tamper, vibrator and paving speed. The result is a lower noise level and significant fuel savings, on average between 15-30%. Smart power also includes a fuel consumption indicator on the EPM display to clearly inform the operator about the current fuel consumption rate, daily fuel consumption rate, fuel consumption rate over a period/project and remaining working time.
Both machines are suitable for paving duties from wearing course down to base courses in a wide range of materials, including all hot bituminous coated materials, dry lean, RCC and CBBM concrete courses, railway ballast and graded mineral mixes. Automatically controlled independent travel drive on each crawler unit ensures uniform propulsion, straight travel, precise cornering and a smooth, even mat. Independent drives for both bar conveyors and augers also help the paving material reach both sides of the screed as needed. Easily raised or lowered road surface scrapers also clear debris and provide a clean, smooth surface for the crawler tracks.
The ABG7820B and ABG8820B have both been designed for easy access to all maintenance points. Featuring lifetime lubricated crawler tracks with an automatic tensioning system, along with maintenance-free bearings for the screed tamper and vibrator. An optional central lubrication system is also available to save time and costs.
Operators can adjust the position of both seat and control panel to meet personal preferences. The elevated operator seat provides a clear view of the mat thickness, scales, material flow in the hopper, paving screed and the auger channel. Both seats can also be laterally extended beyond the outer edge of the paver to improve the view. The sides of the sun roof can be extended outward to offer protection from bright sun or inclement weather.
Both Variomatic and fixed screed models can be supplied as double or single tamper versions.
