ISG wins refurbishment project for North West Wales college
(16/12/2009)
Developed as an agricultural college in 1954, Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor, a further education college with sites across North West Wales, houses one of the UK’s leading land studies departments. ISG has secured a £1.6 million project with Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor to refurbish and upgrade an existing mixed use grade II listed building, creating modern, purpose-built student accommodation.
The project sees the conversion of the existing two-storey Glanrafon Building into student accommodation, comprising 34 rooms with en-suite facilities. Great care will be taken to sensitively upgrade and refurbish the building and ISG is working closely with local ecologists following the discovery of a bat colony in the roof.
The fast-track, 20-week project will include the construction of a new accessible entrance and the installation of a lift within the building, alongside the upgrade of all mechanical and electrical services. The original feature staircase will be refurbished, as will the existing timber sash windows. The roof will be replaced using traditional Welsh slates, stone repairs carried out and the inner courtyard façade will be re-painted.
Craig Tatton, managing director of ISG’s regional business, commented: "This latest project win highlights ISG’s ambition to generate a greater volume of business within Wales. We are actively seeking high quality opportunities across both public and private sectors, having identified the country as a key area for growth within the UK.”
