Dyer and Butler complete civil works on Thameslink upgrade for the Olympics
(23/02/2010)
Ludgate Cellars is Europe’s largest feeder station for railway traction current and has been designed to cope with the Thameslink upgrade which will see the central London section carrying twice as many trains in peak periods, with each train fifty per cent longer. Dyer and Butler has recently completed all the civil works on the substation which will supply power for the major 2012 upgrade to Thameslink London in preparation for the Olympics.
The visitor numbers expected for the capital’s 2012 Olympics will certainly warrant the improved facilities and will be the perfect time for its debut.
The Dyer and Butler team built foundations and steel structures during months of night work due to the live rail, so the nature of the job was potentially dangerous.
The company completed a range of civil works for the project including roof cladding, fire preventative measures and all finishing. The task also included installing the highly sought after EYERIB mesh cladding system designed by James & Taylor.
“It’s a real honour to be associated with everyone who worked on Ludgate Cellars and the Dyer and Butler team is thrilled to have been a part of such a landmark upgrade for Thameslink London,” said Dyer and Butler contracts manager Ged Egan. “Obviously there are major construction projects taking place in anticipation of the Olympics but for Dyer and Butler to have been a part of contributing to it in some form is great.”
