ISG Jackson secures social Orbit Group's contract for social housing development in Great Yarmouth
(23/02/2010)
Orbit Group has awarded a £1.8 million social housing development in Great Yarmouth to ISG Jackson Special Projects. Occupying the site of a demolished public house close to the sea front, the new three-storey building will accommodate 16 individual, two bedroom flats with commercial office space at ground level.
Underlying ground conditions require the installation of driven piled foundations to a depth of 25 metres to form a stable foundation for the new building. Due to the site’s close proximity to the coast, on a tidal floodplain, the new block will be built using a part steel frame and masonry structure at ground floor level with the upper two storeys comprising an off-site manufactured, sustainable timber frame structure
In addition to the commercial office accommodation at ground floor level, there will also be a number of parking spaces for residents. Located within a conservation area, the building has been sensitively designed to reflect the surrounding built environment, with a pitched tiled roof and brick façade.
The development will achieve a Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 environmental performance rating, with roof mounted photovoltaic cells generating emission free electricity and thermally efficient building materials used throughout to minimise energy loss. The project is scheduled for completion by November 2010.
Stuart Talbot, divisional director for ISG Jackson Special Projects, commented: “ISG Jackson’s continuing relationship with the Orbit Group is based upon our expertise and the cumulative experience of a wealth of projects successfully delivered within the social housing arena. As a business, we work with many of the UK’s best known housing associations and are trusted framework partners with many of these organisations, building high specification, innovative and environmentally sustainable contemporary living accommodation.”
