ISG wins three primary school upgrade projects with Manchester City Council
(12/03/2010)
ISG has secured a further three primary school upgrade projects as part of its framework partnership with Manchester City Council. The schemes at Broadhurst Primary School in Moston, Newall Green Primary School in Wythenshawe and Camberwell Park School in Blackley, form part of the government’s £7 billion Primary Capital Programme, which aims to improve and modernise school facilities across England.
ISG is returning to Newall Green Primary School, some three years after its last visit – which also happened to be the very first project that the contractor secured under the new partnering framework deal. In 2007, ISG built an extension at the school to provide additional teaching capacity, forming three new classrooms and a staff room, and in 2010 the contractor will be back to carry out a multi-phased contract to replace the existing roof.
The re-roofing works will be carried out whilst the school remains fully operational, with ISG carefully scheduling the programme to minimise disruption to both staff and pupils. The roof will be carefully stripped, high performance insulation installed and a new dual layer membrane covering applied, with the project scheduled for completion in July.
At Broadhurst Primary School, ISG will also upgrade the existing roof – applying a new polymer membrane system and refurbishing gutters and fascias over a seven week programme. At the specialist Camberwell Park School, the contractor will undertake a 12-week programme to upgrade and improve the thermal efficiency of the building, which will include the replacement of existing windows and doors.
Jim Parker, ISG’s regional director, commented: "The latest project at Newall Green Primary School is a key milestone for the business as it recalls the commencement of one of ISG’s most successful public sector partnerships to date. The framework with Manchester City Council has helped deliver hundreds of individual projects, with ISG working on iconic schemes, such as the Manchester Festival Pavilion and the Aquatics Centre, as well as creating a host of Sure Start Centres and upgrading numerous primary schools across the city.”
