Denne and Coplan Estates selected by Canterbury City Council for mixed use redevelopment of car park
(24/03/2010)
Denne and Coplan Estates, Kent’s largest contractor, have been selected as the preferred development partners by Canterbury City Council for the £50m mixed use redevelopment of a council owned car park within the heart of Herne Bay.
Designed by Canterbury architectural practice Clague, initial proposals for the site include a new 60,000 sq ft food store, additional retail and A3 uses, medical centre and 75 residential apartments.
The appointment, which was confirmed by the Canterbury City Council Executive in December 2009, will allow Canterbury to enter into an exclusivity period with the developer during which the scheme can be progressed with a view to submitting a planning application by the end of 2010.
“We have worked with Clague for many years and this partnership with Coplan is testament to the expertise that all parties can bring to the project. We look forward to providing the people of Herne Bay with a town centre of which they can be proud,” says Graham Brown, Managing Director, Denne.
Colin McQueston, Coplan Estates Director, said “We are delighted to have been selected by Canterbury City Council for this important regeneration project. Our partnership with Denne combines Coplan’s mixed use development expertise with Denne’s contracting ability to provide Canterbury with a partner that can deliver all aspects of the project.”
