Denne to build two affordable housing developments in London for Family Mosaic Housing
(30/03/2010)
Denne has been awarded the contracts to build two affordable housing developments in south and east London on behalf of Family Mosaic Housing. The contracts are a result of previous successful projects completed by Denne in Basildon, Essex, for the housing provider.
Family Mosaic specialises in providing good quality, affordable homes and housing services to over 45,000 people in communities across London and Essex. It has more than 20,000 homes for rent, as well as homes for people with extra support needs and temporary housing. The organisation is also developing more than a thousand homes every year and is selling shared ownership properties to people who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford their own home.
The first project at New Kent Road, SE1, is already underway and involves the provision of 21 apartments and two ground-floor retail premises. This project, on the site of an old sanitaryware factory, is due to complete in late spring 2011.
The second project at Payne Road, Bow, on the site of a former church, is due to start in late spring for completion in summer 2011 and will involve the development of 29 one, two and three bedroom apartments built above a new church, which will occupy the ground floor. Three of the apartments will be built with full disabled access, including specially designed kitchens and bathrooms.
Graham Brown, Denne Managing Director, said: “These two contracts demonstrate Denne’s experience and expertise in the provision of affordable homes and residential housing. Our continued partnership with Family Mosaic Housing is testament to our proven track record in delivering first class accommodation, and we look forward to many more projects like these in the future.”
Dick Mortimer, Director of Development at Family Mosaic Housing, said: “This is where Family Mosaic plays an increasingly important role, as we bring a vast expertise and knowledge around developing and supporting vibrant and integrated communities. The longer term challenge for Family Mosaic is to be 'big, but locally focussed' and our existing close ties in Southwark and Tower Hamlets mean we can continue to make a positive difference at a local level.”
