Tripave slip resistant waterproof surface solves the problem of water accumulation on footbridge
(14/05/2010)
A slip resistant waterproof surface has solved the puddle problem on a footbridge used regularly by schoolchildren in West Sussex. The County Council was seeking a solution to the problem of water accumulation on the heavily used Angmering footbridge which extends over the A259.
Leading contractor for the Council, May Gurney, approached Gaysha Specialist Surfaces, who has built its reputation on innovative resin paving products, to undertake the resurfacing work.
“May Gurney is committed to delivering sustainable improvements to front-line services,” says Richard Collins, General Manager, May Gurney for West Sussex Highways. “This is why we selected Gaysha as sole licensee for our Ayton products, together with its proven track record in the resin paving industry and commitment to achieving results that last.”
Gaysha Specialist Surfaces laid 190 square metres of Tripave®, a highly durable rapid cure surfacing system based on technically advanced methyl methacrylate (MMA) resin technology. It is ideal for pedestrian and traffic applications, particularly where time critical installation is a high priority.
“The resin surface can be expected to have a useful life of at least ten years and up to 25 years in some cases,” says Ian Elsey, director of Gaysha Specialist Surfaces. “Its resilience is due to the production method of combining resin bound and resin bonded techniques”.
Using the resin bound method the aggregate and the resin are mixed together and then spread over a prepared base whereas with resin bonded the gravel or aggregate is scattered over the resin before it sets. Using this combination of systems results in a cost effective, easy and quick application with excellent slip and skid resistance. It can be overlaid directly onto existing surfaces without the need for extensive preparation and is usable in as little as two hours.
Gaysha Specialist Surfaces was established in 2005 as the specialist arm of Gaysha Building. Armed with the May Gurney brands Clearmac® permeable resin bound paving and the Tripave® slip resistant system any specialist surfacing need can be met from design led landscaping creations to practical highway solutions.
