Balfour Beatty receives funding to expand Fort Carson military housing
(25/05/2010)
Balfour Beatty's Fort Carson military housing PPP project in Colorado has received approximately US$100 million (£65 million) in funding from the U.S. Department of the Army for an expansion phase covering the development and construction of additional homes and amenities.
Balfour Beatty Communities took responsibility for family housing at Fort Carson in 2003. In this new expansion phase, it will oversee the design, construction and overall management, maintenance and operational responsibilities for the new housing units, which are due for completion in 2013. Balfour Beatty Construction US will carry out the construction of the new homes.
Commenting , Balfour Beatty Chief Executive, Ian Tyler, said: “This is an excellent opportunity to build upon the existing portfolio of military housing that we have developed at Fort Carson. We look forward to providing further quality housing for military personnel and their families on the base.”
As a result of the Grow The Army (GTA) initiative, there has been a significant increase in the military strength at Fort Carson which has led to an increase in the need for family housing. This expansion follows a 404-home project from 2006 to 2010 due to growth as a result of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) legislation.
Balfour Beatty provides services to members of the US military and their families residing on or near 44 bases located in 20 states and Washington, DC.
Balfour Beatty is one of the leading providers of PPP projects in the United States with over 1,000 employees nationwide. Balfour Beatty is responsible for the development, renovation, operation and management of military privatisation housing projects for the US Departments of the Army, Navy and Air Force.
In the accommodation sector, the company offers an alternative solution for higher education institutions which are looking to bridge the gap between necessary capital plans (academic facilities for faculty, classrooms and laboratories, athletic spaces as well as wellness centres and improved student housing) and the resources needed to execute these plans.
Balfour Beatty is also reviewing potential opportunities for new privatisation projects in the US for other educational facilities; renewable energy and social infrastructure projects such as hospitals and courthouses.
