ISG Jackson refurbishes six grade II listed Georgian townhouses in Paddington
(09/06/2010)
ISG Jackson has commenced work on a £4.3 million project to refurbish six grade II listed Georgian townhouses in Paddington, with Beanland Associates the architects for the scheme. The contractor will create 63 short term let high specification apartments within the row of terraced buildings, by reconfiguring existing accommodation and through the construction of a sensitively designed extension to the rear of the properties.
Internal demolition work is progressing well on site as ISG Jackson undertakes a comprehensive strip out of the buildings back to shell and core, retaining historical elements within the properties. Key preservation areas include the refurbishment of the buildings’ timber sash windows, the cleaning and restoration of the original stucco façade and roof repairs using matching slate tiles.
The traditionally constructed extension will be built in an area currently occupied by a derelict swimming pool and will feature a central light well to enhance the volume of sunlight entering the building. The contractor will also install new mechanical and electrical services within the building. A high specification reception area will be formed in the entrance lobby and the buildings’ existing three lifts will be refurbished, with the project scheduled for completion by mid-2011.
Michael Manning, director of ISG Jackson's Living division, commented: "Situated in the heart of the Bayswater conservation area, the refurbishment of these impressive Georgian townhouse properties represents a major challenge both from an architectural preservation and logistical perspective. On site storage is extremely limited, so just in time deliveries are an essential element of the project programme as is the requirement to minimise the impact of the development on nearby residents and businesses in this busy London location.”
