Leadbitter builds Sixth Form Centre in Warwickshire
(24/06/2010)
The three storey state-of-the-art Sixth Form Centre at St Benedict's Catholic High School in Alcester, Warwickshire, which will include teaching facilities and science labs, was designed by architects Towle Spurring and Hardy and structural engineers are AKS Ward.
The Leadbitter Group has started work on the Sixth Form Centre. The £4m concrete frame building will include a number of different elevational treatments, including terracotta brick, curved aluminium and glass.
Richard Nixon, Regional Director of Leadbitter's Central Construction Division, said: “Leadbitter is delighted to be involved in this prestigious project. We have a great deal of experience and expertise in the education sector, including a previous project at St Gregory the Great, Oxford, which is part of the same Archdiocese. We look forward to delivering a first class Sixth Form Centre for the start of a new era at St Benedict's.”
Due for completion in summer 2011, in time for the school's first ever cohort of Year 12 students to start in the autumn term, the purpose-built Sixth Form Centre will accommodate up to 200 students in Years 12 and 13. The main core of the curriculum will be the International Baccalaureate Diploma, a worldwide recognized qualification which has gained recognition and respect from the world's leading universities. St Benedict's is the first school in South Warwickshire to introduce the Diploma. Also on offer are the ELEVATE course, personalised for those students who need to gain more Level 2 qualifications (GCSE), plus the new Level 3 Advanced Diploma in IT.
