ISG Jackson awarded contract to build new Essex primary school

Designed as a stand alone facility within the grounds of the highly regarded primary school, the new new Early Years Learning Centre at Little Parndon School in Harlow, Essex, incorporates a range of sustainable features to help minimise its impact on the environment and reduce overall running costs. ISG Jackson has been awarded the £560K contract to build the new building.

The u-shaped single-storey traditionally constructed building features a covered play area at its entrance and incorporates a range of architectural finishes to its façade, including coloured render, brick and timber cladding. At the heart of the Early Years Learning Centre are two large classrooms, which have been designed with a central moveable partition to provide highly flexible learning accommodation. The new centre also houses a staff room, quiet and messy play areas, cooking facilities and store rooms.

The building’s environmental credentials include a green living sedum roof, which not only provides a habitat for plants and animals, but also enhances the thermal efficiency of the roof and reduces the volume of rainwater that flows into the drainage system as surface run off. The building also uses high performance insulation materials and features an efficient air source heat pump linked to an under floor heating system. The project is scheduled for completion at the end of the year.
