Queen Elizabeth Hospital contract for ISG Jackson

Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn NHS Trust is to create a new ‘Aseptic Suite for Pharmacy’ facility at the hospital. The new suite will enable the hospital to produce a range of cancer treatment drugs in sterile conditions on site in a dedicated state-of-the-art new laboratory, providing an enhanced service for patients, as well as significant cost savings for the Trust. ISG Jackson has been awarded the £1.4 million project.

The Aseptic Suite will be created by making space within the existing pharmacy building and through the construction of a new single-storey, steel frame extension within the adjacent courtyard area. The new clean room facility will be built to exacting clinical standards and incorporates a sophisticated air filtration system and a series of sterile anti-rooms. ISG Jackson will install laboratory benches and medical isolator units, alongside specialist monitoring equipment which keeps the facility at the correct temperature, pressure and monitors air flow and particle rates.

Working within a busy hospital environment has required ISG Jackson to develop a robust project programme to minimise any potential disruption to patients and staff, whilst maintaining continuity of services to the building. The project is scheduled to commence within the next few days and is due for completion early 2011.
