Constructed by the Leadbitter Group on behalf of Aster Group and Sarsen Housing Association, a brand new development of 12 apartments, eight houses and five retail units at Narroways Road, Bristol was opened officially earlier this month.

The grand opening of the affordable homes was attended by representatives of Bristol City Council, including Tim Southall, Affordable Housing Development Manager, as well as children from nearby St Werburgh’s Primary School. The event was followed by a tour of the development and a barbecue for residents and guests.

Russell Houghton, Regional Director of Leadbitter’s Western Housing Division, said: “At Leadbitter, we are delighted to have been involved in this project that will provide much-needed community housing for the people of Bristol. These houses and apartments, together with the five retail units, will make a real contribution to the Narroways Road area of the city.”

Councillor Anthony Negus, Cabinet member for Strategic Housing and Regeneration, said: “This is a very welcome development. Bristol City Council has been delivering increased numbers of affordable new homes in the last two years, thanks to close and effective partnership we have built up with developers and other housing agencies.

“The impact of the recession means hard choices must be made nationally. These budget pressures will inevitably challenge our ability to deliver affordable homes at the impressive pace we have seen in the last two years. Nevertheless, we remain committed to continuing delivery of low-cost housing that does not compromise on quality, as demonstrated here at Narroways Road.”

Steve Blake, Group Development Director, Aster Group said: “Meeting with the new residents of the Narroways Road development and listening to their stories re-enforces just how important successful partnership is in providing new affordable homes. Aster’s partnership with Bristol City Council and Leadbitter Homes has helped 20 families move into bright, modern houses and flats at Narroways. For many this move has improved their lives considerably, and we are proud to have been instrumental in making this happen.”
