Wastecycle has made a substantial £2m investment at its two licensed facilities at Colwick on the outskirts of Nottingham.

Part of this investment process has included the purchase of two Volvo loading shovels and three further Volvo excavators, continuing an association with Volvo Construction Equipment since the company’s inception in 1998. The wheeled loaders in question are an L110F and an L120F which are tasked with rehandling recycled aggregate, soils and the residue waste from the site’s recycling processes.

The three sixteen tonne excavators comprise of one tracked and two wheeled models fitted with selector grapples and take charge of the recycling process by loading the shredders, sorting various materials such as wood and metal as well as loading high sided bulkers destined for recovery or landfill.

“We are now on our fourth generation of the EW160 model,” commented Managing Director Paul Needham. “This demonstrates how impressed we are with the build quality and reliability of the Volvo product and when we need it, the after sales support we receive is second to none.”

With the original site handling a full range of commercial and industrial waste through to domestic waste, a total in excess of 250000 tonnes is processed with up to 75% of material being recovered. This includes timber, card, plastics, aggegates, soils and plasterboard. Achieving such a high rate of recovery has dictated the quantity and specification of the machines on site to do the job, which are all working double shifts in an eighteen hour day.

“The loading shovels and excavators complement each other well on site in terms of their size and output,” continued Mr Needham citing their level of specification and high residual values. “Our operators certainly appreciate the level of comfort and performance from these latest models from Volvo.”

All five machines have been supplied with Volvo’s Blue customer service agreements ensuring peace of mind for Wastecycle with the excavators and loaders being serviced and maintained by qualified Volvo service engineers.

Wastecycle serves the East Midlands area operating twenty eight collection vehicles including ro-ro containers, skips, front end loaders and wheelie bin handlers.
